The Toughest Thing A Parent Can Face

It's instinct. The moment I found out I was pregnant, my sole purpose became to nurture and protect my child. And when he was born, that feeling only grew. There is nothing (and I mean NOTHING) I wouldn't do for Grant. He is my life. I know it's feeling shared by many parents. And if anyone were to ever harm him, I couldn't imagine how I'd react.

So when Scott and Lorena Juceam decided to be guests on Good Day, I needed to know why. Their daughter, 15-month-old Hannah Rose died of shaken baby syndrome a little more than a week ago. Hannah's nanny is now charged with murder. "How can you be here? How can you find the strength?" I asked. I think I would be so consumed in anger and bitterness. They simply said there isn't room for that violence and anger. There is a painful and vacant look in their eyes. Now all that pain and anger is directed at finding meaning in her death. They have helped propose Hannah's Law. It would make shaking a baby a crime. The Juceams have also started The Hannah Rose Foundation to raise money and awareness about shaken baby syndrome. They have done all this in the week since Hannah died. Scott and Lorena are handling their tragedy with such dignity. They have a long and very tough road ahead of them. But they are honoring their precious angel's memory in the best way any of us can hope for.
